The Conjurers-

This group is almost always a female and is the doll most influenced by New Orleans. The Conjurers usually wear dark coloring and always wear a Tignon (a head wrap pronounced ti-yon). In the late 18th century a law was passed that all women of color or multi racial women must cover their heads in public. What began as a social distinction became as much a fashion statement due to the creativity of the women forced to wear them. The dolls are also decorated with beads, buttons, sequins and jewelry. They also include the "Night Sentry" poem by Doctor Wren as well as a specific poem, "Conjure Me" by Doctor Wren.
